How can you leave a happy little impact on a stranger’s day?

Sometimes making an impact is just about leaving the right book in the right place. Do you remember the last time you finished a story that you just had to tell someone about afterwards?

Now’s the time to bring someone along on an adventure with your favourite tales, and here’s how:

Step one: Find The Wee Garden Library on Court Street! And maybe bring a book with you.

Step two: Browse the selection in The Wee Garden Library, pick one up that strikes your fancy!

Step three: Take this new book, and leave your previous book in its place. Write a little note to say when you left it there, where it’s been, where you read it, and leave that note inside the cover for the next person to find.

Step four: Go on an adventure with your new book! Hopefully it has a note inside from the previous reader. You can write about your experience in a note for the next person to read when you swap books again.

If the weather is good, you might want to sit in the garden and enjoy your new book. Or just use the space to peruse, thumb through a few books, and take your time deciding. Just like you would do at any local library.

The Wee Garden Library was created by local artist Little Jupiter, in partnership with Dundee Changemakers Hub, and volunteers from Uppertunity with the woodworking know-how to build the library. This new addition to Court Street Sanctuary Garden came about from just looking out the window, and seeing that there was space for something different, space for something that could bring about a sense of community connection through shared experience.

Visiting The Wee Library and swapping stories is one way to get to know the neighbourhood, and bond with people out and about, even if you haven’t met them yet. If you have a favourite book that you want other people to get really into, drop off a copy to The Wee Garden Library when you’re passing by Court Street. And as always, Sanctuary Garden is there for anyone to enjoy. Take a seat and soak in the surroundings.
